Parental Compass

My name is Laura Hansom and I've had the privilege of supporting over 400 women with their breastfeeding journey since 2019. I am a qualified National Childbirth Trust (NCT) Antenatal Practitioner and Breastfeeding Counsellor. I'm also a Perinatal Doula with Amma Birth Companions and soon to be a Postnatal Doula with Red Tent Doulas. Alongside my NCT practice, I deliver community based breastfeeding support services under the umbrella of Parental Compass and Trossachs Antenatal.

I cover Glasgow and Stirlingshire. I offer antenatal breastfeeding classes, postnatal home visits, on-line and face-to-face support to groups and individuals. I also provide support online to other UK and international locations upon request, or through my on-line services "Someone Like Me".

I believe that antenatal education helps to get breastfeeding off to a good start, especially when there is specific concerns (feeding with flat nipples for example). Information places parents at the centre of their experience. Parents who feel centred, are more likely to see their breastfeeding journey as positive, no matter the issues they experience. Timely support is just as important as knowledge. It can be tough putting new skills into practice once baby is born, knowing where to access support, can be the difference between stopping and continuing too breastfeed.
